When I was growing up, I remember playing this game very vividly. The object of the game was to teach us how to differentiate between different shapes and sizes which ultimately led to us learning how to discern things that simply didn’t fit later in life. This childhood game is very closely related to a life altering decision that I had to make. Here I was in my eighth year as a Pastor of a church I loved and yet the more I looked at my church and other churches of different denominations and size; although we were all of different size, styles, races and locations we were all the same. However, the church that I read about in the book of Acts was different. The way they approached worship and the work of caring for people was glaringly different than what we were doing. Of course, I tried as I had over the years to make us fit but at the end of the day, the church that God desired was simply didn’t belong in the settings that I found myself serving in. Thus, in March of 2020, we planted The Change Church. The name was no mistake, because it is indicative of the Change that needs to take place in the modern-day church. Ironically, as it relates to the early church in the book of Acts, our mission is to create a movement that is the same. We exist to Give, Grow and Go. Unlike the churches that I grew up in all my life and ended up Pastoring, we measure our impact on what we give out vs what we take in. This has allowed us to aide Single Mothers, Covid Victims, Aspiring Students, The Unemployed and many other people to the tune of nearly $40,000 since our inception. These monetary gifts have paid for groceries, avoided evictions, purchased books and created resources for those who are truly in need. Our Giving has definitely allowed us to grow and we have been blessed to add members in three different states outside of South Carolina during this Pandemic. This also aligns with our mission to go. Our technology affords us the opportunity to reach anyone, anywhere at any time. Additionally, we haven’t forgotten about our precious Senior population that often doesn’t have the technological amenities to remain connected. As a result, we have implemented Senior Sunday’s for those 60 and over on the first Sunday of each month, which provides them with an ability to fellowship while remaining socially distant. We also deliver them food boxes twice monthly. We are very grateful for the impact we have been able to make in our first six months and look forward to continuing to bring about the much needed Change that God desires for His Church.
